Vice President JD Vance exits Air Force Two after landing at Laughlin Air Force Base before heading to Eagle Pass.

Vice President JD Vance has just landed in Del Rio, Texas at the Laughlin Air Force Base Airport (KDLF) on Wednesday, March 5. Air Force Two touched down around 12:00pm. Vance is accompanied by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. Their destination? The Southern Border. The President’s Team will travel to Eagle Pass for their main visit, but they will first be welcomed by military leaders at Laughlin Air Force Base. Various media outlets were invited to be present on the flightline to capture the VP’s arrival.

Vance, Hegseth, and Gabbard flew from Washington D.C. to Del Rio with a full motorcade of traveling press and secret service in tow. They waved to local press as they walked across the Laughlin flight line from Air Force Two towards a pack of Black Hawk helicopters. The VP and team spent only a few minutes on the ground in Del Rio before departing to Eagle Pass.

Air Force Captain Del Aguila was helping escort the press group. Del Aguila said, "this is the first time we have had the new Administration here at Laughlin, we are all excited." Air Force Colonel Tyler Ellison, commander 47 Flying Training Wing, will be welcoming the VP, SECDEF, and DNI, along with Cheif Master Srgt. Lester Largaespada. Ellison said, "we are honored to support Air Force Two and distinguished visitors during their visit to the Southern border."

"While our primary mission at Laughlin AFB is pilot training, we are committed to supporting the Department of Defense's border security initiatives," added Ellison.

Secret service officers were circling the flight line. Military working dogs sniffed all around. At 10:20am, Air Stairs were rolled out and pilots started up the Black Hawk helicopter engines.

There are only two items on the Administration’s agenda for their visit to the Southern Border. A roundtable meeting at the Border Patrol center in Eagle Pass this afternoon. The Air Force will not be at the roundtable, it is exclusively for Border Patrol. The VP and team will also provide remarks to the press at Shelby Park in Eagle Pass. They will return to Washington D.C. before dark.

“Trump-Vance Administration Priorities” start with “Make America Safe Again – President Trump will take bold action to secure our border and protect American communities.” Listed under “Issues” on the White House government website, all top 3 bullet points include the word “border.” The Administration’s focus on border issues is evident.

In an Executive Order on January 20, President Trump said, “By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered.” He assigned the United States Northern Command “to seal the borders and maintain the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of the United States by repelling forms of invasion including unlawful mass migration, narcotics trafficking, human smuggling and trafficking, and other criminal activities."

We can assume that the VP and other officials are here to discuss border security and deportation policies. More information to come after the press meeting in Eagle Pass with the Vice President, stay tuned!
