Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem Visits Del Rio

New Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, visited Del Rio, TX, today, Saturday, February 1st and Sunday, February 2nd. Noem was set to assess Customs and Border Protection operations, tour the border, and meet the workforce. Noem says she is committed to “secure our southern border and fix our broken immigration system” (SpectrumNews, 2025).

Noem is the 8th Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Prior to current assignment, Noem served as South Dakota’s 33rd Governor and the state’s first female governor in which she participated in a Republican governor’s initiative to use National Guard troops in Texas for Operation Lone Star’s aim of deterring migration. Noems’s visit to Del Rio, Tx, will be her “inaugural visit since assuming her new role” as Secretary of Department of Homeland Security.
