Mayor Arreola Proclaims "Mustang Miracle Day" for March 29 in Anticipation for Movie Screening!

Del Rio, TX - On March 28, 2024, at 4:30 PM, Mayor Al Arreola, San Felipe Exes President Alonzo Martinez, and Members of the San Felipe Exes came together to celebrate the 1957 San Felipe High School Golf Team and their achievements. Arreola proclaimed March 29 as "Mustang Miracle Day" in honor of the team's remarkable achievements that are depicted in the upcoming movie screening of "The Long Game." The movie is set to screen at Cinemark at 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM which will introduced by the cast and crew all on Mustang Miracle Day.


"San Felipe has brought up a lot of Mayors, Counselors, Teachers, and Professionals in our community that have made a difference here," Arreola states as he prepares to make the proclamation. "We have to leave a legacy for our generations to come and that is what these gentlemen did (San Felipe Golf Team from 1957)." It was an exciting moment for the San Felipe Exes some even saying that they felt so proud to finally be recognized on a higher level! "We went from caddying at the old golf course to now having a San Felipe Exes Golf Tournament! How ironic is that.. back then the only way you could get in there was through working or serving on the staff to now having our own tournament!" Alonzo Martinez's statement was met with applause!



FRIDAY, MARCH 29, 2024 (Mustang Miracle Day) Series of Events:


Movie Screenings: 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm at Cinemark 8, Plaza de Sol Mall. Screenings introduced by the cast and crew.


Pep Rally: 3:00 pm - 3:45 pm at San Felipe Memorial Middle School front lawn. Cast and crew Q&A session.


Special Appearances By:

  • Julio Quintana: Director of "The Long Game."

  • Julian Works: Actor portraying Joe Trevino.

  • Christian Gallegos: Actor portraying Mario Lomas.

  • Humberto Garcia: The author of "Mustang Miracle," the book that brought this story to the screen.


On IMDb, the movie description states, "In 1955, five young Mexican-American caddies, out of the love for the game, were determined to learn how to play, so they created their own golf course in the middle of the South Texas desert."
