Reports of smoke coming from an airport building sent Del Rio Fire Department to the scene last week. CDR has since learned the smoke was caused by an electrical malfunction.

Upon arriving to the scene, the U.S. Customs And Border Protection Air Unit, firefighters found no fire but did discover smoke coming from a room inside the unit. Fire personnel then used thermal imaging cameras to find any abnormal temperatures in the room; none were found. Further investigating did ultimately identify an electrical malfunction caused by the activation of the building’s emergency generator. Also found were breakers tripped by the same malfunction.

First responders at the scene verified no further hazards were present after diagnosing the problem. Though, DRFD Fire Chief David Harrison did confirm that the building is being examined by representatives of AEP and an electrician to prevent further mishaps.
