Council Approves Collaboration with Rotary Club on Pump Track

Following the Rotary Club’s presentation on the potential plans for a bicycle pump track adjacent to the Del Rio Skate Garden at the previous City Council meeting, the resolution to approve the collaboration between the City of Del Rio and the Del Rio Rotary Club to begin the project was brought to council for a vote.
Though the funding for the project will be provided by the Rotary Club, the resolution includes assistance from the city in removing the fence and basketball court that currently sit in the location for the potential pump track and navigating the permitting process during construction.

After Councilperson Carmen Gutierrez asked Scot Carcasi for clarity on who would be removing the fence and basketball court that currently inhabit the location of the potential pump track, (the city), a motion to approve was raised by Councilperson JP Sanchez and seconded by Mayor Pro Tem, Councilperson James DeReus, passing with a unanimous vote from the mayor and council.
Upon questions raised by Councilperson Jesus Lopez, Jr. about the city’s plans to replace recreational areas such as the basketball court that will be replaced by the pump track and a tennis court that previously sat where the skate garden currently is, council and Scot Carcasi revealed that they are open to having conversations about rebuilding these courts for community members in the future.
For now, the Rotary Club Bicycle Pump Track will be moving forward in collaboration with the City of Del Rio with any future projects welcome to be brought before council at a future date.
