BURGLARY INVESTIGATION LEADS TO ASSAULT ON PUBLIC SERVANT

On May 10th, 2024 at 5:28 p.m., officers from the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 600 block of E. Viesca Street for a report of a Burglary of a Habitation and the theft of a vehicle. A few minutes later, an officer located the stolen vehicle near the 2200 block of Veterans Blvd. The officer activated the emergency equipment in her patrol unit and made contact with the female driver. However, the driver disregarded the police and drove away from the location.

The officer followed the evading vehicle and it eventually came to a stop a short distance away. The officer once again approached the driver, who refused to obey commands. The driver then reversed the vehicle, colliding with the marked patrol unit. She then drove forward, nearly striking the officer, as she evaded once again.

The driver continued southbound and eventually came to a stop near Miers and Bedell Ave. The officer attempted to handcuff the female driver, but she resisted and continuously struck the officer with her cellphone, causing a laceration to the officer's face. An additional officer arrived at the scene to assist and used the department's issued taser to subdue the driver. She was then taken into custody without any injuries. The female driver was identified as Sylvia Robles, 49 years old. She was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Habitation, Theft of Property $2,500 <$30,000, Assault on a Public Servant, Resisting Arrest Search and Transportation, and Evading Arrest or Detention with a vehicle. Robles was transported to the police station for booking and later released to the custody of GEO Correctional Facility.
