VVRMC Safe Kids Ensures Kids Safely Enjoy BMX Festivities

Last weekend Del Rio natives and renowned BMX champions Robert and Ruben Castillo brought fun, exciting, and family friendly BMX shows to town. Beginning with a Cornhole Tournament to raise funds for the Rotary Club Pump Track and ending with a free BMX show on Main Street, Saturday March 1.

Among the number of vendors, local businesses, and organizations set up at the event, were VVRMC EMS and Val Verde Safe Kids. Safe Kids provided educational materials on the importance of wearing fitting safety gear when riding bikes, measuring kids for and handing out free helmets. Riding safety and properly fitted helmets becoming even more important as the potential pump track and interest in biking gains popularity in Del Rio.

“Safe Kids Val Verde County, led by Val Verde Regional Medical Center, was thrilled to participate in the BMX event this past weekend and help promote helmet safety for kids in our community. By providing free helmets, we hope to encourage safe riding habits and prevent head injuries. A huge thank you to BMX Freestyle Action Sports Fest and the Del Rio Main Street Program for making this event possible!” Safe Kids Val Verde County Coordinator, Luzelena Cazares tells Connect Del Rio.
