SHOPLIFTER RESISTS ARREST

On February 27th, 2025, at approximately 10:05 P.M. The Del Rio Police Department responded to Wal-Mart located at 2410 Dodson Ave. for a shoplifter in the store. While responding, police were informed the suspect left the business running towards the Murphy gas pumps. The male suspect was described as having long hair, wearing a black shirt over dark jeans and black shoes.
Upon arrival police entered the Home Depot parking lot located across from the gas pumps. Police located a male matching the description hiding between vehicles. Police activated the emergency lights of the patrol unit and drove in the direction of the male. The male continued running disregarding police commands to stop. Police attempted to handcuff the male, and he pulled away. The subject was ordered multiple times to comply, but he continued to disregard all commands.
Police tased the male subject causing him to fall to the ground. Once on the ground the male continued to act combative, the male was tased a second time resulting in the male ripping out the taser prongs from his body. The male was drive stunned with the taser in the thigh area and was finally subdued by police.


Police searched the male who had 14 pre-paid cards in his pant pocket. Police contacted Wal-Mart management who reported the male attempted to walk out of the business with 210 unpaid items totaling over $1,500.00 dollars. The merchandise consisted of food items and electronics. The subject was seen passing the last point of sale of the business without paying for the items. The subject also had an active Criminal Trespass Warning for the business.
The male identified as Elias Torres, 57 yrs. of age was arrested for Criminal Trespass, Theft of Property $750.00 < $2500, Resisting Arrest Search or Transportation. Torres was also arrested for an outstanding arrest warrant out of Val Verde County for the offense of Terroristic Threat Cause Fear of Imminent Serious Bodily Injury.
