Del Rio, TX, May 8, 2024 - Today marks a significant advancement in student transportation for the San Felipe Del Rio district with the deployment of 19 new electric school buses. These stateof-the-art vehicles, funded through a dedicated grant program, are launching to replace older diesel models, heralding a new era of sustainability and efficiency in transporting SFDR-CISD students. Eighteen of these buses are designated for regular routes, and one specially equipped for special education needs, thereby enhancing accessibility and capacity for all students.
Mr. Thomas Cabello, the Transportation Director, highlighted the superior benefits of the electric buses compared to traditional diesel buses. "Drivers will find the electric models remarkably similar to operate, with the added advantages of smoother acceleration, quieter rides, and better maneuverability," he explained. This transition promises not only a more comfortable driving experience but also a significant reduction in environmental impact.
The electric buses are also equipped with cutting-edge camera systems for full coverage of the interior, addressing safety concerns by eliminating blind spots. "Every single seat is covered," assured Mr. Cabello. Future enhancements will include GPS tracking and student monitoring systems to further boost safety and operational efficiency.
With driver and mechanic training already underway, along with upgrades to infrastructure to support the electric fleet, the San Felipe Del Rio district is fully prepared for a smooth transition. This initiative is a pivotal step towards a greener, more sustainable future in student transportation. Stay tuned for continued updates as the district progresses on this exciting journey.
