Local Gypsy MC and Elks Lodge Host 2024 Toy Drive

The Gypsy Motorcycle Club International and the Elks Lodge joined forces to host the 2024 Toys for Tots, bringing holiday cheer to underprivileged children in the Del Rio community. The event, held at the Elks Lodge, aimed to provide toys and warm clothing to families in need, ensuring that every child had a reason to smile this Christmas.    

The collaboration between the two organizations stemmed from a shared commitment to community service. "They have their march run and they always have it here so we got together one day and decided to let's get together and make things happen," said Cecilia Cardona, the Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge.    

The Gypsy MC International, known for their philanthropic efforts, took the lead in organizing Toys for Tots. "We are a family-oriented motorcycle club," said Socket, the club's president. "We concentrate on helping and supporting our community, as well as making sure our families are well taken care of."    

Toys for Tots proved to be a resounding success, with over 500 toys collected through the generosity of club members and other participating organizations. "We have over 500 plus toys that we have donated, not only through us, but through other organizations that have donated to us to give out to the community for the less fortunate kids in our community," Socket explained.    

The toys were distributed to 37 families, carefully selected based on need and the number of children in each household. "When I say families, I don't just mean one kid in the family," Socket clarified. "It's however many kids they have in their family, we get a toy for each one of them, and a jacket or some type of clothing for wintertime."    

The event also saw the participation of Miss Del Rio royalty, Pinto Sorocha and Audrey Benavides, who expressed their joy at being part of such a heartwarming initiative. "I think this Toys for Tots is such a great experience," said Benavides. "I love being here, and I love looking at the smile on the kids' faces."    

The success of the 2024 Toys for Tots underscored the spirit of generosity and community that defines Del Rio. Through the combined efforts of the Gypsy MC International, the Elks Lodge, and the Miss Del Rio royalty, the event brought holiday cheer to those who needed it most, proving that the greatest gifts are those that are shared with others.
