About the event

What to expect

PLEASE READ ALL ITEMS BELOW - THIS IS FOR YOUR SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF THE GROUP

HELMET REQUIRED: If you don't have one and need to borrow one, message me and we'll try to find a helmet for you.

PREPARATION: Make sure you inspect and prepare your bike, your pack, etc, the night before the ride. Delays at the trailhead will put the entire group at risk of getting stuck out on the trail as the temperatures climb.

COST: Cost is $4 per person and you'll need to have cash as the office won't be open when we arrive. Please bring cash!!! It's a self-pay station so we need to each pay and fill out a form before driving to the trailhead in the park.

DEPARTURE TIME (600AM): We are leaving Del Rio at 6am so we can be wheels down by 7am (sunrise) to beat the heat. There is NO SHADE on this ride, which is why starting early is vital.

DRIVE TIME (45 MINUTES): Drive time is 40-45 minutes (each way) from Wings-n-Rings. Once we pick a meeting spot (so we can carpool) I'll update this with the location.

RIDE TIME (2 HOURS): Our goal is to start the ride at 7am and be back at the trailhead by 9am to beat the extreme heat.

CAR-POOL LOCATION: TBD

TRAIL DIFFICULTY:

There is a green trail and a blue trail. If we have enough people we can split into a green group and a blue group.

If you've never ridden a real mountain bike trail and are new to biking, the blue trail will not be fun as you'd probably spend most of your time walking your bike. There will be places where beginner riders can walk/ride into the blue trail to see it and get a feel for it in case you want to try it.

BEGINNER/GREEN TRAIL: the green trail is mellow double-track (hard pack gravel road with some small rock sections) and should be rideable by all skill levels.

INTERMEDIATE/BLUE TRAIL: The blue trail doesn't have a lot of elevation change, but is very technical, especially compared to the green trail.

WATER/FOOD: Water is essential as there are no water stations. Ideally, you should have at minimum a 2-liter bladder/back-pack, preferably a 3-liter. The combination of the sun and the physical demands of the trails will exhaust people quickly, so carry as much water and snacks (nuts, protein bars, etc). If you don't have a 2 or 3 liter bladder, l'd recommend loading up a back pack with as many water bottles as you can handle.

FUN: There will be no fun on this ride. Just kidding! It will be a blast. The views are incredible along the blue trail and there are multiple view points from the green trail as well.
